Rafaela – Working Hard

Rafaela is a single mother of three children, ages 15, 13, and 12. She has worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 10 years, transporting patients around the hospital to the various departments and back to their rooms. The vehicle she had stopped working and was no longer worth repairing.

For Rafaela, it is very important for her to have a vehicle to transport her children to and from school, and for work. Her family helped her out the best they could but it had been challenging getting rides. She earns enough to pay for the basic essentials, but her monthly budget is tight with little available for expensive car repairs.

She was grateful to learn about Hands from Work Life Partnership, a nonprofit that provides support to employees through companies’ HR departments. Rafaela explained her need to have a reliable and safe car to remain employed.

In January 2022, Hands placed her in a 2006 Subaru Outback. In a thank you note to the individuals who donated the Outback to Hands, she wrote, “I see people like you as angels, because of your generosity you make a difference in the world.”

Rafaela is a hard worker and has a lot of responsibilities in her life. She is grateful for the support Hands of The Carpenter’s programs provide to families such as hers.
