One woman’s story of persistence for her family
Clara came to Hands in need of a vehicle. She was in an abusive marriage and is now divorced, with three children – two sons and a daughter. Unknown to Clara, the father was abusing the children also and as a result one child was placed in a foster home, one child was placed in a group home and is currently on juvenile probation for consequences of some of his own decisions.
For the past three years Clara has been doing everything possible for her family – setting up a healthy environment to be able to get her two children back from the court’s custody, maintaining full-time employment, and obtaining a secure home. The last step required by the courts to be reunited with her child that was in foster care was having a reliable vehicle so that she would be able to transport her child safely. Clara worked diligently to save her money to be able to receive a vehicle from Hands’ placement program. With one week left before her deadline to obtain a car, Hands called Clara with the good news that a vehicle was ready that would meet her family’s needs! On the day of placement, Clara was able to bring the child who was in foster care with her to pick up the car. Together they both expressed such gratitude and joy. Most importantly Clara could now bring her child home!
As they were leaving, Juli (Hands’ Client Services Manager) said to them what a privilege it was to walk with them in their journey and how they had ‘made our day.’ Her child said, “You have made my LIFE!” We have all been deeply impacted with Clara and her family’s story.
Thank you for being a part of it too!
