Maytee – Widow and Single Mother Finding Hope through the Hands Community

Maytee is a single parent of three children, ages 20, 15 ad 10 years old. Her eldest son is blind and very much dependent on her to take him where he needs to go. About three years ago, Maytee’s ex-husband passed away, leaving her to be the sole-provider and single parent to care for their three children. Since then, Maytee has been self-employed and has worked for Amazon Flex as an independent contractor.

With Covid-19, work has been slow and she has had to requests for unemployment benefits so that she could continue to support her children. Her main concern was not having a vehicle for work and to transport her children to and from school.

She found out about Hands and applied to be placed with a car. We’re thrilled to share that on September 11, 2020, Maytee received a 2007 Ford Edge, a vehicle large enough for her family. She is very excited about Hands’ support and plans to return over the next two years for maintenance services.

As Maytee shared with us: “Being without a car was so hard. Now I can safely bring food home for my family. Hands is a blessing!”
