Ishimina – A Hands Lift UP Program Graduate!

Ishimina (Ishie) is a mother of two, her son is now seven and her daughter is five. In 2019, when she first came to Hands, Ishie was engaged with a partner nonprofit organization to stabilize her life, working in a Catholic Charities childcare facility, and was taking classes at the Community College of Denver towards a social work degree.

Hands placed her in a Toyota Corolla that brought her so much joy. Ishie exclaimed, “My children and I don’t have to walk in the snow and wait for the bus in freezing weather anymore.” Since 2019, Ishie has faithfully brought her car to hands for periodic services, having learned from Hands’ staff the importance of not putting off repairs.

While providing for her family, Ishie completed her education at CCD and is now pursuing a BS in Social Work at Metropolitan State College and will graduate in spring 2025. Ishie recently experienced the transition of “graduation” from the Hands program. Single moms are eligible to be in the Lift UP Program for up to three years.

She leaves Hands grateful for all she learned about caring for her car so she can keep striving for her dreams and goals to work with seniors or vets and help them live healthy lives.
