Fran: The Hands Community Comes Through for Local Mom

Fran came to Hands looking for possible car repairs. After performing the vehicle evaluation, it was determined that the repairs needed exceeded the value of the car, so Fran was put on the wait list for our placement program.

Fran left a very abusive marriage (her ex-husband tampered with the car causing much of the damage). She had lost both of her parents and is raising three children on her own. She explained that she has been employed at a local restaurant for two years, and without a vehicle she would risk losing her job which supports her family. We went to work looking for a good car to match her with.

We are so happy to share that through the Hands of The Carpenter vehicle placement program, Fran received a van that fits her entire family! This particular car was repaired by our auto partner shop, Stan’s Automotive in Lafayette. Fran’s story is another incredible example of the Hands community coming together to support a lovely family and to help them stay on the road to self-sufficiency.

UPDATED 3/30/20:
As an essential business, Hands is open!

Operating with the highest level of care, our team is continuing to serve women who come for help and hope.

You can have an immediate impact through financial gifts, or offering a vehicle as a gift in our vehicle donation program.

Single women in need are still needing to get to the store, get to doctor’s appointments and provide for their families. 60% of the women in Hands’ two year repair, maintenance and education program have reported having lost a job, had reduced hours/pay or their business has closed all together. 40% suggest that their vehicle currently needs maintenance or repair. Transportation is a necessity – Please be a champion for them today!
