Destina – Seasons of Growth

Destina is a working single mom with three children. She has lived her whole life in the Denver area and is now in her mid-20’s. The last few years have been challenging and a time of new growth. She notes, “I was in a not so good relationship from a pretty young age, I was fourteen when I got into a relationship and am now just trying to learn to be on my own and manage to be the best mother I can be all on my own. I don’t have much of a support system so I’m just doing my best, my children are 8 and 5 and 3 and very happy kids. I take them to school/day care every day to make sure I can get to work.” Destina completed her studies almost two years ago at PIMA as is now a Certified Medical Assistant working in a pediatric office.

In late 2022, Destina was referred to Hands from another nonprofit. The car she had been driving broke down. In March 2023, the Hands team was able to place her in a 2003 Honda CRV. She said, “Hands saved my life.” She was grateful to not be paying for ride-share services any longer, and is thrilled knowing Hands will help her control car maintenance costs for two more years. In addition to the vital practical uses of her car, she also has been able to utilize it for her health and well-being. At a time of feeling low, she was able to take a short drive to the mountains, breathe and get refreshed. Destina sends her thanks to the Hands Automotive team for their friendliness, responsiveness, and flexibility, and to all who make it possible for Hands to exist.
